Well we did it, we got MARRIED!

After 2 years of planning and collecting, our rustic, reused, recycled wedding came to life. It came to life even prettier than I imagined! I ended up collecting over 150 China Dinner, Salad, and Cake plates. 30 lace table runners, a beautiful armoire I used for a cake stand and lots of other fun stuff!
the Silver Creek Youth Camp at Silverfalls State Park near Salem Oregon was perfect for the joining of these two hearts. We had acres and acres and acres to your selves, our loved ones stayed the entire weekend, no one told us what we could and couldn't do and the staff who stopped by every morning to make sure we had everything we needed was very nice and respectful of our space.

Here's a few photo's of our decorations. I'll post more once I get the professional photos back =)

This door was at the end of the trail that went to the ceremony site, a large open amphitheater like setting.. "A door to a new life"

These hearts all had little love notes Levi and I wrote to each-other over the last two years and kept in a box where we could not read them until our wedding day.

My friend Becca painted this lovely tree, guests were asked to "Leaf their finger prints"

This is the dinning hall. Already equipped with tables and benches from the 1800's.  I made the garland out old sheets. It turned out beautiful!

The day before the wedding my girlfriends and I picked Dahlias to fill all the antique medicine, mason, and milk jars I had collected

My sister-in-law made our cakes! White cake with butter-cream, stuffed with fresh peaches!

I ended up renting a few vintage items from Danner & Soli out of Salem. I loved the way this Victorian furniture looked out in the open field!

Our ceremony was very intimate. We laughed and had fun the entire 15-20 minutes.

Of course our dogs were there!

Surround  by old growth

There were 38 of these cute little cabins on-site for all our overnight guests

Handsomes!

Truman and Tucker = Best pals!

Did I mention there was a swimming pond?

All in all it was a pretty good day!

Less IS More - Wedding Decor

When it comes to wedding decor most of it makes me want to puke.... Over the top, super tacky, matchy matchy, and expensive!
Sorry if I just offended you.
I plan to keep our decor super simple and lightweight, our venue is pretty enough and has it's own rustic charm. Not to mention it's outdoors and mother nature has done a pretty fabulous job decorating already. It just needs a little sprucing that's all....

Here's a few ideas and I'm sure final decisions:

Little vintage mirrors for the walls in the Dining Hall and the "Booze Hall"

Lots of assorted glass to hold lots of assorted flowers in Peach, Yellow, & White tones

A French Provincial Desk to put place my cakes on!
FLAGS! To drape as garland from the ceilings of the Dining, Dance, and Booze Halls - I like all these styles.

But this one is probably my fave:

Little jars and vintage assorted lanterns with tea lights (battery operated of course) to hang from the trees to light the paths from the Dining Hall down to the Dance Hall, on to the Booze Hall, ending at the Campfire. OH! and the trail leading back to the ceremony of course

Some kind of fun backdrop outside for picture taking

I Don't Have 2 Buy Paper Lanterns!

We're getting married in an old growth forest, lots of tall mossy trees will be surrounding us and our guests during the ceremony. I thought it would be a good idea to hang round paper lanterns from some of the trees as decoration but these handmade yarn or twine balls are even better! Not to mention a dollar saver!
Thank you Jessica for posting this on your blog!

What I'm going to need:

A variety of different sized balloons

Scissors

Cotton yarn or Twine

4 oz. White school glue

1/2 cup of Corn starch

1/4 cup of Warm water

Something to stir with

Petroleum jelly

Clear fast drying spray paint

Fishing line

Container for mixing

DIRECTIONS:

Blow up a balloon. Not to it's maximum capacity so that it is rounder.

Prepare your work area by laying down a tarp. We hung a shower curtain between two chairs and suspended the balloons by it with string so we could have plenty of working room.

Mix corn starch, glue and warm water together until it's not lumpy

Smear the petroleum jelly all over your balloon until it is completely coated.

It's best and much faster if you have a friend help you with this. One of you begin feeding the yarn through the glue mix and handing it off to the other person to drape around the ball.

Tuck the start and end pieces of yarn beneath other pieces of yarn. Begin wrapping the yarn around the balloon vertically at a comfortable tightness, and gradually switch to wrapping horizontally.

After your ball has dried for 24 hours, you can pop the balloon! Use a chopstick to knock out any glue crystals that developed between strings.

Spray the ball with clear fast drying spray paint tie the fishing wire to the ball and hang!
